My name is Sheryl McDougald and I ramble about on the beautiful Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. I draw, paint, photoshop and collect bones and feathers, always fascinated with the natural world that surrounds me. I also have an enduring love for the Italian Renaissance body, but I’m not sure when I’ll get back to it. Soon, I hope. I did go to Italy, with the help of wonderful friends – a trip of a lifetime which has added massively to my creative fodder.
Oh, also, I have MS which makes for some challenging situations – but hey, everybody has got something!

Glad to ‘see’ you are out travelling the world and still finding cool ways to look at the world and find beauty in the simple things (like a ‘tacky’ fish painting)!!!
We’re planning a rotating gallery in our new clinic space – would love for you to be our first featured artist when you’re back from wandering////

I didn’t know you were so creative and talented 🙂 Beautiful. Inspires me.
I have a house full of bowls of rocks, bones and all kinds of beach & forest finds, my car has feathers stuck in all the visors & my window sills are also little display centres and yes the dogs certainly do help with the discoveries! I love to study them and try to create with them as well.

Hi Sheryl! i have been looking your work. It’s very nice!
Do you know that there are some absolutely water resistant inks from “Noodler’s”?
You can use them without spoiling the pen’s nib (even natural hair brushes)!
(sorry for my poor English)

Hi basquesketcher! Your work is beautiful, and inspiring too.. multi-faceted…!
I have heard of Noodlers, but I couldn’t find it in the Art Supply store I go to in Vancouver, in fact I was looking online for it when I found the cheap refills. Ha, I think I will have to spend some money! Although I will definitely try to exploit the bleed ink on other sketches, I like the look.
Thank you…..

Hi Sheryl, I found your boards on pinterest. I think you have wonderful taste. I worked my way through all six-hundred odd pins on your printmaking board and copied many things to a dozen different boards. You also inspired me to start a printmaking board as I am growing more and more interested in trying it. I have heard that it is bad pin etiquette to go through someone’s pin and copy a lot. I certainly didn’t mean to pirate your board – I copied things onto colour boards, boards for using in the classroom, various categories of art and several personal themes. Feel free to check out my boards if you have any issues with my interaction with your collection. I hope it’s OK. I’m looking forward to checking out your other boards when time allows. Please let me know if you think I’ve overstepped.

Hello Margot! Thanks for finding me at Raincoast Studio, and your lovely comments! You can pin as many pins as you want, I myself have been through many a board and I’m not sure if I care much about pin etiquette – it is too young to have rules, particularly when there is no monetary value…though I’m sure it will change if they find a way to involve $! I think of it as a giant magazine, and I do hope that people will find my website, as you did. It looks like I’m going to enjoy your boards too…! Happy Pinning!

Hi Sheryl, we spoke yesterday via Pinterest and now I have found your blog, checking to see how I can change over from Tumblr. I access wifi from my local library and they have a new firewall which is deeming my blog inappropriate…ho hum. As you can see from my Pinterest page my art is hardly that controversial. Cheers from a fellow MS’er (yep, we’re everywhere!)

Steph, I LOVE your work!! The Firewall is an idiot! I hope you like WordPress, I do – to be honest a friend set it up for me then off I went, so I hope you can get the “background” figured out – ask me any questions about images sizes, I’ve worked through that part. (also I tried to go to your fb page from Pinterest and the link is broken – ?)
I would love to keep in touch – I find much MS info from the Australia MSers… Kerry Cassidy etc. We keep up the fight, all of us!! And you are the only other artist I know of, I’m sure we share issues! I’m so glad you contacted me!

I think you are truly amazing. I’ve just bought your Fishing Birds. How did you come to know about my dear beloved friends Patience Gray & Norman Mommens?

Thank you Aldo, you are so kind!! My friend Julie Marr is a chef, she and her partner Francesco Creanza run a culinary workshop in Puglia, they were the reason I finally got to Italy in 2015 — I have been completely charmed ever since. I came across the book ‘Honey from a Weed’ and she highly recommended it – and now I have recently purchased the biography of Patience Grey (it just arrived, I am excited to read it) — I can’t get enough of the story of their lives! I need to find a copy of ‘Remembering Man’. And I am saving to get back to that beautiful country, I am hooked!

Dear Sheryl, do I understand that you came to Puglia? What a pity we did not meet! We must next time. Send me your postal address via Messenger and I’ll manage to send you a copy of Remembering Man (which I also translated into Italian when Norman was still living, but the Italian edition never appeared). I’ll ask a copy to Nicolas Gray, Patience’s son, who now lives with his wifeMaggie at the Spigolizzi farmstead. They’re in England at the moment, but coming back in a few days. All the best.

Yes, in 2015 I spent 10 days in Puglia, but I had not yet discovered Honey from a Weed. I will go back, hopefully next year. My friends are now in Oria. I would be delighted to have a copy of Remembering Man!! Very Best to you too!!!

Oh, Zoran!!! I think about you, and Orestes all the time!! I have Josephine’s book, and I’ll be coming to the launch at Cap College whenever it is, Sandra will let me know. Josephine changed my life in the very best ways, I miss her so much. Just this month I had a show of the large-scale paintings I did from 1990ish to 2004, and I had hardly a moment I didn’t think about those years and all of you…. I can’t wait to see you again. So much love to you…….
